The Honolulu Advertiser, one of Honolulu’s two daily newspapers, usually published a Sunday edition but was unable to do so on Dec. 7 because its press equipment broke down. When it resumed publication on Monday, Dec. 8, it unfortunately used two headlines which were both factually incorrect. This was due to the lack of authoritative information in the panicky aftermath of the sudden Japanese attack. The Honolulu Star-Bulletin printed multiple editions on both Dec. 7 and 8, when Oahu residents were desperate for news.
