Design an Activity

In this section, you will design a classroom activity based on what you have learned about using primary sources from the readings, activities, and videos in this session. You will select a benchmark for the grade you teach, identify appropriate primary sources, and design an activity or lesson that uses those primary sources to teach the benchmark. Helpful places to find primary sources include Hawaiʻi Alive, local museums and libraries, or other community sources.

As you plan your activity, be sure to include:

  • learning goals;
  • strategies for teaching each primary source;
  • what skills students will learn/use; and
  • desired outcomes.
Use the Primary Sources Activity (PDF) worksheet to plan your activity.
